A Spectral Element Implementation for the M3D Extended MHD Code
نویسندگان
چکیده
A spectral element library has been developed and integrated with the M3D extended MHD code. The currently used linear triangular finite element implementation and the new high order quadrilateral spectral element implementation are directly compared on equilibrium, linear stability, and nonlinear evolution calculations run on the same problems. Spectral Quasi-linearization for MHD Nanofluid Stagnation Boundary Layer Flow due to a Stretching/Shrinking Surface
This article concentrates on the effect of MHD heat mass transfer on the stagnation point nanofluid flow over a stretching or shrinking sheet with homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions. The flow analysis is disclosed in the neighborhood of stagnation point. Features of heat transport are characterized with Newtonian heating. The homogeneous-heterogeneous chemical reaction between the fluid and di...
متن کاملVibration and Stability of Axially Moving Plates by Standard and Spectral Finite Element Methods
Based on classical plate theory, standard and spectral finite element methods are extended for vibration and dynamic stability of axially moving thin plates subjected to in-plane forces. The formulation of the standard method earned through Hamilton’s principle is independent of element type. But for solving numerical examples, an isoparametric quadrilateral element is developed using Lagrange ...

متن کاملA comparison of spectral element and finite difference methods using statically refined nonconforming grids for the MHD island coalescence instability problem
A recently developed spectral-element adaptive refinement incompressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) code [Rosenberg, Fournier, Fischer, Pouquet, J. Comp. Phys. 215, 59-80 (2006)] is applied to simulate the problem of MHD island coalescence instability (MICI) in two dimensions. MICI is a fundamental MHD process that can produce sharp current layers and subsequent reconnection and heating in a hig...
متن کاملLocal properties of magnetic reconnection in nonlinear resistive- and extended-magnetohydrodynamic toroidal simulations of the sawtooth crash
We diagnose local properties of magnetic reconnection during a sawtooth crash employing the three-dimensional toroidal, extended-magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) code M3D-C. To do so, we sample simulation data in the plane in which reconnection occurs, the plane perpendicular to the helical ( ) ( ) = m n , 1, 1 mode at the q=1 surface, where m and n are the poloidal and toroidal mode numbers and q i...
